The Shore D durometer is more appropriate when hardness levels are above 90 Shore A. Softer TPE’s use the Shore 00 scale for measurement of materials below 5 Shore A. Most soft gels and soft foam rubbers are measured using the Shore 00 scale.

Shore durometers come in a variety of hardness ranges. Shore A instruments are not as accurate when readings are above 90. At the other end of the scale, soft gels and soft foam rubbers are measured using the Shore 00 scale.

TPE-1 and TPE-2 have a hardness of 45 and 50-55 Shore A, respectively. Results and Discussion TPE-1 TPE-1 is a translucent material of 45 Shore A. TPE-1 and TPE-2 have a hardness of 45 and 50-55 Shore A, respectively.

With its 40 Shore A hardness, it also offers a low compression set to protect sensitive audio components from water and dust. The second grade, with 80 Shore A hardness, enhances speaker skin design with a silky feel, excellent colorability and outstanding resistance to abrasion and environmental effects.   Durability with a Silky Feel   For speaker skins, Versaflex™ CE (80 Shore A) supplies a softer, silkier feel than TPUs while also delivering durability via resistance to abrasion, UV light and sunscreen chemicals.

Example applications for 20-50 Shore A grades include ergonomic grips, strain relief components, handles, gaskets, and seals. Grades in the 60-90 Shore A durometer range can be used for IV connector caps, diagnostic testing devices, endoscopic caps, and similar applications.  

They can be matched to any color, varied based on processing and performance requirements, and will have a volatility range from < 1% to 5%, and a durometer range of 60 Shore A to 90 Shore A.

These European grades include a blend of both post-industrial (PIR) and post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, and are available in 30A, 50A and 70A Shore hardness levels. The grade contains 30 percent PIR content at 80 Shore A hardness and is compatible with consumer electronics applications such as phone cases.
