Working closely with the Citroën design team, PolyOne developed a specialty OnColor™ Smartbatch™ color and additive system that allows the distinctive panels to meet stringent UV stability, appearance and durability requirements. Added Palm, “By working with Citroën and its Tier I suppliers, we were able to develop an advanced solution that provides the panels with uniform, attractive, and durable color despite exposure to sunlight, heat, and detergents. TPU materials are rarely selected for a vehicle’s exterior, but by working together, we were able to overcome several material-related challenges.

The OEM had several years of experience working with Avient Smartbatch™  – a combination of color and performance-enhancing additives in a single pellet. After reviewing the requirements, the two teams worked to customize a color and additive concentrate using carbon fiber to produce the desired visual effect that would make the interior pillars and headliner look like they were covered in fabric. Improved quality and reduced waste: It eliminated uneven quality and high scrap rates that were inherent to working with fabric-covered parts.
