The OEM had several years of experience working with Avient Smartbatch™  – a combination of color and performance-enhancing additives in a single pellet. After reviewing the requirements, the two teams worked to customize a color and additive concentrate using carbon fiber to produce the desired visual effect that would make the interior pillars and headliner look like they were covered in fabric. Improved quality and reduced waste: It eliminated uneven quality and high scrap rates that were inherent to working with fabric-covered parts.

And combined efforts to execute our strategy have worked.  2018 marked the ninth consecutive year of adjusted EPS expansion at Avient, as we delivered $2.43 per share.  It’s a commendable streak that we work tirelessly to achieve and build upon.

Injection overmolding with thermoplastic composite laminates combines the advantages of injection molding—the ability to create complex shapes and fast cycle times—with the lightweight strength and durability of continuous fiber reinforcement. The design team at Rome worked closely with the Avient advanced composites technical team and a local thermoformer, trialing various combinations of engineered resin and reinforcement, fiberglass content, and laminate configurations.

This is just one example of the work our teams are doing across Avient’s facilities to deliver on our annual waste goal of 3% reduction of waste to landfill intensity. In 2023, ongoing remediation work on behalf of Avient continued on schedule, and planning was concluded for future remediation projects. On a daily basis, plant personnel monitor structural controls and work practices at our facilities via routine daily rounds.
