The manufacturer was working with Avient on other projects, so it brought together experts from both companies to work on identifying a material that would reduce warpage and improve productivity. Working together, they identified an alternative material that met the performance requirements of the product but did not require blending. Increased productivity: The new material allowed the manufacturer to more than double output via tooling and cycle time improvements.

This reduced packing and cooling time to lower overall molding cycle time. TPEs work to reduce costs in other ways too. The resulting TPE material met this requirement and shortened cycle times.

In the past, excellent aesthetics often meant compromising processing speed and performance attributes, such as abrasion resistance, stain resistance, and cycle times.  In addition, the materials’ outstanding mold release improves cycle times, reducing overall energy use to support manufacturers in reaching their sustainability goals. This not only added cost, it made for longer cycle times, even as rising demand was pushing the manufacturer to unlock new capacity. With nothing clearly available in the market, the teams worked to develop an entirely new solution: Syncure™ Solar, a single-layer jacketing and insulation material made of cross-linked polyethylene.  Increased capacity: Reduced cycle times from the single extruder pass yielded an increase in manufacturing capacity.

The manufacturer began working with Avient to find a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) solution to meet its dual requirements. These calculations showed that the new TPE would deliver significant cycle time efficiencies and reduced scrap rates, more than offsetting its slightly higher material cost and higher specific gravity. This cut cycle time by 27 percent.  

Closely working together, IŞILSAN and a Avient technical team developed a new polyamide-based formulation that provided the wear resistance of LubriOne™ with improved structural strength. Improved cycle times. The new material combination also resulted in a 40% improvement in cycle time for production of the bushings – freeing machine time for other projects that might otherwise have required capital investment to increase capacity.
