The main focus of this paper is to introduce novel developments in adhering thermoplastic
elastomers onto rigid thermoplastics such as polycarbonate, ABS and their alloys, polyacetal and polyamide.
These include semi
crystalline and amorphous polymers such as polypropylene, high impact polystyrene (HIPS), polycarbonate
(PC), polystyrene (PS), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polybutylene
terephthalate (PBT), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), styrene acrylonitrile (SAN), polyphylene oxide (PPO),
polyoxymethylene (POM) and polyamide (PA).

Bottles and closures have traditionally been made using virgin resin.
Injection and fill pressures will be different with PCR versus virgin resin due to viscosity inconsistencies of the PCR
Incorporating PCR into closures is reported to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 71% over the use of virgin resin¹.

Sustainability remains high on the packaging industry’s agenda and eco-friendly solutions that don't add complexity and cost are winners amongst brands, converters and resin suppliers.
These innovative infrared-absorbing additives are added to PET resin at the reactor stage to provide an eco boost during the blowing of container preforms.

With this launch of additional OnColor™ and OnCap™ HC Plus pre-certified additives and colorant formulations, customers will have more resin choices and performance options for a greater range of applications, especially those that require biocompatible solutions.
We can now offer expanded resin families that incorporate biocompatible functional additives, in both masterbatch and compounded forms, that meet or exceed industry standards for USP Class VI or ISO 10993 biocompatibility testing.”
Expanded resin families able to incorporate biocompatible colorants and additives include nylon, thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs), and polystyrene.

ColorMatrix™ Optica™ Toners & Colors added to PET resin, preforms and rPET corrects and reduces the yellowing that occurs during the recycling process.
ColorMatrix Optica toners and colorants for enhanced recyclability offer aesthetic as well as processing benefits for PET resin during the manufacture and recycling processes, and further downstream for convertors, bottle blowers and brand owners during packaging production.
Rebuild intrinsic viscosity (IV) to improve resin quality and increase use rates of reclaimed and recycled PET

However, this solution also makes for a cleaner resin for the recycling stream.
Smartheat™ was used to widen the blowing window, allowing the recycled resin to be evenly distributed along the bottle.
