50% Amount of weight reduction that advanced composites could bring to passenger cars, leading to 35% better fuel efficiency
7% CAGR that analyst firm Technavio forecasts the global medical composite materials market will experience from 2016–2020
Fiber-reinforced polymer composites combine thermoset
or thermoplastic resins with fiber reinforcement, the resulting
product having substantially different properties than the
individual components.

44% of Avient’s electricity demand globally was from renewable sources in 2021, up
from 0.69% in 2019.
We will comply with the systems by which we are regulated by keeping up-to-date on existing
and upcoming emissions trading schemes.
The Alliance will invest $1.5
billion over five years in innovation, infrastructure, education and clean-up.

No matter
which process you choose—assembling panels
from aluminum, steel or wood; hand lay-up
with composites; or producing panels using
the vacuum assisted resin transfer molding
(VARTM) process—throughput remains low
while costs are high.
And because each panel is individually
fabricated, laid up or molded, it can be difficult
to ensure uniform quality.
Benefits include:
• Superior strength-to-weight ratio
• Resistance to ultraviolet (UV) light
and chemicals
• Resistance to moisture degradation
and rot
• Impact strength
• Vibration damping and acoustic insulation
• Thermal insulation
• Nearly unlimited lengths, widths up to
10 feet, and thicknesses customized
to the application

When
conventional thermoplastics can’t measure up, high-performance
thermoplastics can meet the most stringent requirements.
While
commodity plastics can typically maintain performance only up to 100°C, and
engineering plastics do the same up to 120°C, a high-performance thermoplastic
can withstand continuous use temperatures of 230°C while also maintaining low
temperature impact.
To mold high-performance thermoplastics, processing equipment
must be capable of melt temperatures up to 400°C and mold
temperatures up to 200°C.

The circular economy is a departure
from the linear, take-make-waste system in which discarded goods and
products end up in landfills once people no longer have a need for them.
If not recycled properly, plastics can ends up in a landfill or, even worse,
the ocean.
