CLEVELAND – November 10, 2020 – Avient Corporation, a premier provider of specialized and sustainable material solutions and services, today introduced its newest sustainable material family: Artisan™ thermoplastics. Targeted at products for the consumer market, Artisan™ nylon (PA6) is the first material in a series of high-gloss, scratch-resistant pre-colored thermoplastics formulated to replace paint.
Parts molded from Artisan pre-colored thermoplastics offer excellent scratch resistance compared to painted plastic, which minimizes the appearance of scratches. Replacing painted metal parts with Artisan materials also improves corrosion resistance. These thermoplastics bring two added benefits: because there is no painting process required, energy use is reduced and VOCs are eliminated. Outdoor consumer applications where superior aesthetics, UV resistance, and high performance are critical, such as powersports, lawn and garden, and marine body panels and housings, are suitable candidates for customized Artisan formulations.
“Efficiency meets beauty with this next generation of high performing, pre-colored solutions,” said Matt Mitchell, director, global marketing of Specialty Engineered Materials at Avient. “Artisan formulations allow our customers to have the look of paint without the hassle, fumes or secondary processing. Design engineers for demanding outdoor applications can now achieve vibrant colors, excellent aesthetics, weathering resistance, and improved sustainability without the use of paint.”
The Artisan nylon grade is globally available in a range of customizable colors. Additional paint replacement grades for other key industries are in development.
NOTE: On July 1, 2020, PolyOne and Clariant Masterbatches joined together as Avient, a new kind of materials company focused on conquering customer challenges and unlocking the potential for innovation and sustainability around the globe.
